Bird watching one of the most fascinating hobbies in the world. There are more than 7,000 species of birds.
Bird watching in the wild is different than bird watching in your regular park or zoo,
making it a once in a lifetime adventure and a must do if you are in the Toronto area.
There are more than 140 species that live in and around the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
The great variety of bird life can be attributed to the GTA location.
The GTA has always had a very diverse environment with a varied range of climatic conditions and
areas of low rain and grassland as well as alpine and desert environments.
This diversity has combined with the industrial development and development of the last 50 years,
has led to a remarkable diversity of habitats.
Watching trip clubs
While some of the species are endemic, meaning that there are only found in one area of the GTA,
others have spread into the region through human disturbance.
What was once a fairly small area for the specialty bird club to participate in participation
has now grown to include all of Ontario.
It has developed into a bird watching convention of international standards,
with numerous organizations and clubs involved.
The organization of these bird watching trips is up to the club to create specific trips and
rules to ensure that participation is available to as many members as possible.
You can get involved in a bird watching trip at one of two places.
The parent organization or club can create the trip,
or you can suggest one to your club and they can create it as a trip for you.
Equipment for for the sport
Since this is a specialty activity for specialists, one of the many unique things
about bird watching is that it requires specialized equipment and vehicles.
You will need a good quality camera, binoculars and tripods.
Binoculars
Binoculars have to be binoculars, as the variety of birds vary
greatly in size, shape, color, tail length, beaks, feet, voices, songs and so on.
The best binoculars for bird watching can be expensive and are specifically designed for bird watching.
These have a BAK-4 optics, high quality lens technology and a high quality optic for long eye relief.
Binoculars for bird watching come in a wide variety of sizes and price.
You may find binoculars in packs of 4 for under $100, 10’s and 20’s can be had for under $200.
You may need a tripod for bird watching, so you don’t bring in equipment damage.
Cameras
Cameras are involved in bird watching because the birds vary greatly in size. Birds vary greatly in color also.
There are birds that are gray, white, yellow, brown, black, orange and so on.
Bird watching has taken off and the birding world is maturing rapidly.
The camera industry has advanced so much that a camera with
image stabilization is now adequate to take quality photos of birds.
You may need a camera bag to carry and a camera case, because birds vary greatly in size.
Many birds are under 5 pounds, but some are over 10 pounds.
A camera and/or a digital camera bag are what you’ll need.
If you decide to try a bird watching trip, remember your equipment is all you need.
The real test is to try to get to know the bird(s) you are watching.
Ask them how they feel about the fact you are taking their picture.
Watching trips are becoming popular, because there is a lot of knowledge and excitement surrounding it.
