There’s nothing like a good grilled steak to bring people together and establish a strong connection.
Whether it’s being feasted on by friends and family or enjoyed by strangers on the street, one thing is for sure:
no one wants to go on a food retreat without tasting your best cut! A good steak is not the only thing that comes with a prime cut, however.
You also want to select a steak that is flavorful and tender enough to be able to sustain the heat of the grill.
This means that you want your steak to be marinated with enough flavor to stand up to the fire, but not so much that it turns into mush.

There are a few ways you can go to accomplish this goal, but two are the most common.

The first way is to add a bit of soy sauce or a touch of sugar to the steak prior to cooking. This is usually done on the griddle,

in the form of a sugar rub. This rub usually has a bit of horseradish mixed into it as well as lemon juice.
You want to make sure you don’t apply too much, as you want the steak to still be tender enough to roll it and be a bit flavorful.

The same goes for the soy sauce or lemon juice, as you don’t want too much flavor and you want the steak to be tough enough to resist the heat of the grill.

That’s the reason for the waiting time. It gives the seasoning time to penetrate the steak before you put it on the grill.

The key to cooking a prime steak, is to maintain a safe temperature. You don’t want to cook the steak to the point of burning,

but you also don’t want to cook it too long. As a general rule of thumb, you can cook a medium rare steak at 3 minutes on each side.

Another rule of thumb that you should use when cooking a prime steak is to maintain

a room temperature for 15 minutes after you take the steak from the grill.
After you grill the steak, you should maintain your work surface or surface area near the grill.
This helps you maintain the same temperature and also prevents your steak from reaching dangerous temperatures.

Your steak should also be cooked to an internal temperature of 140 degrees F.
